ABCircular GmbH

Sustainable innovations and strategies

What we offer

ABCircular stands for a new generation of recycling: with a holistic sustainable approach, we combine green chemistry, digital technologies and industrial scalability. At the heart of our approach are electrochemical processes that we develop specifically to use only low-hazard or non-hazardous chemicals. It is this conscious choice that enables our processes to comply with the principles of green chemistry – resource-efficient, energy-efficient and with minimal environmental impact. All substances used are almost completely recycled in closed cycles.

In doing so, we go beyond the mere recovery of recyclates: we develop innovative, functional material systems for batteries, hydrogen electrolysers and other clean energy technologies from recycled waste – thus creating real technological added value. In addition, we offer sustainability consulting and practical training to disseminate forward-looking solutions across industries.

A significant milestone: In June 2025, our Green Loops project was nominated as one of ten finalists for the prestigious Manchester Prize – Clean Energy Systems. The award recognises our AI-supported approach to converting waste into clean energy sources – and confirms ABCircular as a pioneering player at the interface of recycling, material innovation and sustainable energy.

With our first small-scale plant generation and a clear scaling path, we are laying the foundation for a climate-friendly industry – scientifically sound, ecologically effective and economically viable.

Why we take action

Global industry demands ever-increasing amounts of raw materials – but their extraction and processing cause serious social and environmental damage. According to the Global Resource Outlook 2024, raw material extraction and processing are responsible for over 60% of global CO₂ emissions and more than 90% of biodiversity loss. At the same time, the global waste problem is growing dramatically. Electrical waste alone is growing rapidly, but less than a quarter is properly collected and recycled. The remaining quantities often end up in landfills – with sometimes toxic consequences for soil, groundwater and health. In addition, valuable material resources are lost. Furthermore, current recycling technologies only recover around 15 of the more than 80 elements contained in electronic waste. At the same time, according to the EU Critical Raw Materials Act, the EU is classifying more and more raw materials as critical to supply. A secure supply of these materials is essential for the European economy – especially in the context of the energy and mobility transition. The recovery of critical raw materials from waste makes a targeted contribution to Europe's security of supply and strategic resilience.

At ABCircular, we see this resource crisis not only as an ecological and social challenge, but also as a technological opportunity – and we are taking action. Our vision is a socially fair world with a clean environment.

Our Process

We focus on sustainable materials and green technologies – with a clear emphasis on electrochemical processes. We recover valuable materials from complex waste streams using electrochemical processes. This central process step is combined with other green chemistry approaches, such as the use of bio-chemicals and the recycling of all process substances used. This enables us to achieve high recovery rates and purity levels while minimising environmental impact.

In addition, we develop innovative material systems for electrochemical applications in the field of renewable energies – for example, for batteries or water electrolysers. Artificial intelligence supports us in product development, process control and the optimisation of ecological sustainability.
